Heroic has emerged victorious against Team Falcons in the Grand Finals of PGL Wallachia Season 2, making history as the first South American team to win an international LAN event in Dota 2. On October 13, the Norwegian organization, featuring an all-South American roster, secured a decisive 3-1 victory over their Saudi-backed rivals.
Heroic’s roster of South American stars reached the finals after initially losing to Team Falcons in the Upper Bracket. Earlier in the day, they managed to overcome Tundra, defeating the European powerhouse for the second time in the tournament.
With Team Falcons in the finals, many fans and analysts anticipated a repeat of their dominant performances throughout the year, expecting the Falcons to win yet another tournament. After all, they had previously bested Heroic in the event.
However, a flicker of hope for Heroic emerged in game one, where Team Falcons barely clinched victory in a nail-biting base race. Unfortunately for Falcons, this would be the closest they would come to winning for the remainder of the series.
A key factor in Heroic’s success was the outstanding performance of David “Parker” Nicho Flores. His gameplay showcased a blend of brilliance and technical skill, contributing to one of the most impressive displays seen in recent years. Heroic’s playstyle was a perfect mix of methodical strategy and chaotic flair, embodying the essence of South American Dota.
Parker’s dominant performances on Morphling, Shadow Fiend, and Monkey King ultimately sealed Team Falcons’ fate. His teammates supported him flawlessly, leading to a complete collapse of the Falcons. By game four, it was evident that Team Falcons had lost their cohesion, allowing Heroic to claim the championship.
With this victory, Heroic etches their name in Dota 2 history as the first South American team to win a LAN event, solidifying their status as one of the region’s best rosters. They take home $300,000 from PGL Wallachia Season 2, along with significant bragging rights over Team Falcons. This tournament concluded with four teams from the Americas reaching the playoffs, marking a notable achievement.
Heroic’s roster is composed of players who have dedicated years to honing their skills in renowned South American teams like beastcoast, Hokori, and Keys Stars. The only non-South American player, Belgian-American Cedric “Davai Lama” Deckmyn, has risen from a Tier 2 competitor with D2 Hustlers to a top-tier player with Heroic.
For Team Falcons, this tournament has been a disappointing end, overshadowed by distractions, including issues involving Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf earlier in the event. The team’s decision to maintain their roster without changes may soon be scrutinized, especially considering expectations that this tournament would be a straightforward victory for the fourth-place TI13 team.
PGL concluded the broadcast with an announcement of three new PGL Wallachia events scheduled for next year.
