Four Teams Fight to Stay Alive in MPL PH Playoffs Opener

Four teams will clash in crucial do-or-die matches on the opening day of MPL PH Season 14 this Wednesday, October 16, at Green Sun in Makati.

Matchups for the Day

  • Omega vs. Blacklist International
The first match will feature Omega facing off against Blacklist International in a best-of-five series. The winner will advance to the next stage to compete against the two-time world champion, Falcons AP Bren.

  • Aurora vs. Team Liquid ECHO
Meanwhile, MPL newcomer and fan-favorite Aurora will battle it out against the defending MPL PH champion and M4 world champion, Team Liquid ECHO. Similar to the first match, the losing team will be eliminated, while the winner will proceed to face Fnatic ONIC PH next.

The four remaining teams will compete throughout the playoffs in an upper and lower bracket format, ultimately leading to the grand championship on October 20. The champion and runner-up will represent the Philippines at the M6 World Championship in December.

Falcons Vow to Be More Consistent in MPL S14 Playoffs

As the reigning M5 World Champion, Falcons-AP.Bren have pledged to deliver a more focused and consistent performance as they advance to the finals playoffs of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines Season 14 (MPL S14).

Commitment to Consistency

This commitment follows their dominant 2-0 sweep of defending champions Team Liquid Philippines during their final elimination round match at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City on Sunday.

Falcons captain Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel acknowledged the need for consistency, stating, “Siguro, our biggest lesson is to be consistent. Napatunayan namin ito. Hindi kami naging all throughout.”

The Falcons, who retained their championship-winning lineup from the M5 World Championship, secured the second seed in the upper bracket of the finals playoffs.

Recent Performance Highlights

Their journey began with a 25-minute Game 1 showdown, led by Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo’s hero Tigreal, resulting in a close 26-22 victory. This marked the Falcons’ 10th win out of 14 matches in the elimination round.

Building on this momentum, Falcons AP.Bren completely overwhelmed Team Liquid PH in Game 2 with a decisive 15-4 victory, not losing a single turret in the process. Vexana stood out in the second match with a flawless record of three kills and nine assists.

Falcons head coach Robert Sanchez noted Team Liquid PH’s hasty gameplay, saying, “Masyado silang nagmadaling pumatay. Kaya nakakawi kami, kahit paisa-isa lang.”

The Falcons entered the match with high confidence from their M5 World Championship win last year, where they claimed the $300,000 first prize in the global event organized by Moonton.

Regular Season Dominance

Meanwhile, Fnatic ONIC (FNOP) continued to dominate the regular season, extending their record-breaking winning streak to 13 games, securing them the top seed in the upper bracket. Smart Omega (OMG), the only team to halt Fnatic’s streak, claimed the third seed for the finals.

The MPL S14 playoffs will take place from October 16 to 20 at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City. This critical phase will determine the best team in the Philippines and the country’s representatives for the upcoming M6 World Championship.

The playoffs will feature six qualified teams: Fnatic ONIC PH (FNOP), Falcons AP Bren (FCAP), Team Liquid PH (TLPH), Smart Omega (OMG), Aurora (RORA), and Blacklist International (BLCK). Teams will compete in a best-of-five (BO5) series, with the Lower Bracket Finals and Grand Finals culminating in a best-of-seven (BO7) showdown.
